Josie and the Pussycats (2001) w/ The Vern from The Cinema Recall Podcast

The Vern from the Cinema Recall podcast joins us this week to talk about the 2001 Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont film, Josie and the Pussycats, a film that has slowly transformed from box office bomb to cult classic. We chat about the loaded soundtrack featuring the songwriting of Dave Gibbs (Gigolo Aunts, Rock of Ages musical director), Adam Schlesinger (Fountains of Wayne, That Thing You Do, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), Adam Duritz (Counting Crows), Anna Waronker (That Dog, Shrill, Yellowjackets 96), Jason Falkner (Jellyfish, The Greys) and soundtrack executive producer, Babyface.

We chat about the casting options for some of the main roles, how the cinematographer for the film was also shooting some very different movies at the same time and we talk about the cameo filled boyband in the film!

Ryan has a degree in Film Studies, and he’s a musician. So, Soundtrack Your Life is the perfect intersection of his two main passions. Plus, he’s an avid music fan—hunting down rare songs from his favorite bands has familiarized him with many obscure soundtracks over the years. It's been so gratifying for him to hear fellow film and music enthusiasts share their stories of why they love soundtracks!
